New signing Ryan Law eager to get going as the start of the new season draws near.
It’s eight days and counting until Gillingham’s Sky Bet League Two campaign is up and running but, for new signing Ryan Law, it simply can’t come quick enough.
“I just want to start the season now,” admitted the 22-year-old left-back. “I’m looking forward to the 2022/23 campaign, it should be a good one.”
Law, on a season-long long loan from Plymouth, began his life at the Pilgrims as an eight-year-old before working his way through the Academy and forcing his way into the first team. After previously enjoying successful loan spells at Truro City and Torquay, the young defender is now hoping to build on his footballing education under the guidance of Gills manager Neil Harris.
“It seemed an obvious decision to come here after speaking to the gaffer, and knowing that Gillingham are such a big football club with ambitions of coming back up.
“I signed at Plymouth when I was about eight and I have been there every single year since. Last couple of years I have been breaking into the first team and last season was probably my best season so far. I made about 20 appearances.
“I was a left-back until a couple of years ago until Ryan Lowe came in as manager at Plymouth and he played a 3-5-2, so I became a left-wing-back for the last three years. I had to change my game a bit but coming to a four at the back at Gillingham should be good. I will be looking to get up and down that wing.
“This should be a good season for Gillingham. I met all the boys on Monday and trained, everyone has been very welcoming so far. It’s been a good start. So far so good.
“I am feeling fit, physically good and ready to play. I’m really looking forward to the first game of the season next Saturday.”
