James Brophy knows that Gillingham will have a difficult test on their hands when they face Rotherham United on Saturday.
Gills travel to the New York Stadium, which is a tough ground to visit, and Brophy discussed how the approach for an away fixture differs from playing at home.
The 32-year-old is one of the more experienced members of the squad, and knows that there is a responsibility to help guide the younger players when possible. He also credited the club's leadership group.
Brophy has been nominated for the League Two Player of the Month award for September, a month in which he scored three times, including his two fantastic goals against Rochdale. Despite the recognition of his individual performance, the Gills forward admitted that the success of the team is what matters most.
Saturday's game at Rotherham...
They have a lot of players that have played at the level above. It is a club that is probably used to being in the higher end of the football pyramid, so with that, we are aware of how we have to treat that. It is an away game, and we are the away team, so we know that the game sometimes looks a bit different when you are away from home in how you have to set up, really impose yourselves and try and quiet the crowd.
There are definitely areas that we will have to contend with.
On being one of the more experienced members of the group and leading when possible...
I'd like to think that I am the youngest of the older ones. That's the way I'd pitch it to myself. I am definitely still a kid at heart!
It's nice to be able to pass things on, but it makes me feel really old when you see the younger boys around the place and being a bit more of an experienced one.
It's nice to try and help the younger ones, but we have a good group and leadership group in the changing room. We have a good group of more experienced players, so I don't really have to be the most vocal one.
Being nominated for League Two Player of the Month...
It's a nice feeling. I think that, especially at a new club, it is nice to kind of get yourself in and try and impress. First impressions always count, so that is nice.
I think that in a team game, being an individual maybe sometimes goes out the window because the priority is the team. If you are showing yourself individually and the team isn't doing well, then it is all for nothing. It was a nice feeling, but one that I take with a pinch of salt.
I think that three goals in a month for me is a very good number! The goals themselves, I was pleased with. Most importantly, as a team, I thought that we generally had a good month, where we showed more positives than negatives and put ourselves into a position where we can really attack the next set of games.
