Tom Eaves is delighted to be back at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium after re-signing for Gillingham earlier in the week on a one-year deal.
The forward is glad to have seen many old faces from his previous tenure at the club, and admitted that he has settled in very quickly.
Eaves scored 40 goals across two seasons in his first stint with the Gills, which he credited for rejuvenating his career at the time. He is aware of the expectations that his return may carry.
Having left Northampton Town following the expiration of his contract, Eaves worked with the PFA as part of their pre-season training camp, encouraging any out-of-contract players to take advantage of what was a fantastic opportunity.
On his return to the Football Club...
I am delighted to be back. I am really, really happy. There are a lot of new faces, but also some old faces, which is really nice to see. The place has changed a bit as well, which is great. We have even got branded microphones now!
I am really happy to be back.
I feel quite settled straight away coming into the place, and it has been really nice.
What Gillingham means to him...
It is a club that has always been close to my heart. It reignited my own career. That was partly down to the fans as well. I scored at the Rainham End, which is my favourite end to score at in any Football Club. There is no roar like it.
I had a really special time last time. I am aware of the expectations. People will expect you to come in and hit the same numbers and stuff like that, but I have my own high standards as well, which I expect from myself.
His summer with the PFA pre-season camp...
You go with the PFA, who have been top with me, and I know that they have been good to a lot of the players out of contract. I would recommend it to any player that is out of contract to go out and try it because they treat the players really well, and the standards are really good as well. I can't speak more highly of the PFA for doing that.
