Gillingham have fended off heavy interest from a number of clubs to secure the signing of striker Will Goodwin on a two-year contract.
The 24-year-old arrives at MEMS Priestfield Stadium after leaving Oxford United last month. He officially becomes a Gillingham player on July 1.
Will came through the youth ranks at Chester, joining at aged nine but moved to Stoke, via a loan stint at Stalybridge Celtic, in February 2021.
However, he made his professional debut later that year while on loan at Hartlepool. He scored on his debut in a 3-2 defeat at Barrow at Holker Street. He made 15 appearances in total, scoring twice, his other goal coming against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in a Vertu Trophy tie.
He enjoyed another loan spell in 2022/23, scoring eight times in 27 appearances for Torquay before he made a move to Cheltenham for an undisclosed fee in January 2023.
He spent a year at Whaddon Road, netting seven times in 32 appearances before he moved to Oxford in January 2024.
He has had two other loan stints since arriving at the Kassam, one of which at Wigan and the other at Colchester. He played against the Gills for Danny Cowley’s men last season, netting four times in 30 appearances overall.
On arriving at Priestfield, Will said: “I am really excited to be here, it’s a great club.
“After speaking to the manager, his philosophy and playing style suits me to a tee.“
An interview with the player will appear online in due course.
