Goodwin | "I like a physical battle"

Goodwin

Will Goodwin is anticipating a game of similar styles when Gillingham travel to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.

The forward is aware of the threats that Saturday's opponents will pose, but believes that the Gills have the players to deal with what is thrown at them.

Goodwin was unlucky not to score on the opening day, striking the crossbar twice against Walsall. However, he is glad to be getting into the positions to get shots away and has the belief that he and the rest of the team will put things right at the weekend.

The 24-year-old led the line against Walsall with Ronan Hale and James Brophy in support. He spoke of their partnership and how he believes it is already beginning to click.

What to expect from Fleetwood...

I think that they will be direct. I think that they will be similar to us in that they want to get it into the striker, flood the box and put balls into our box. I think that we have got good enough players to deal with that. I think that we have some big lads at the back who will want to go in and attack balls. I think that it should be a good game, but we've got that bit of extra determination following on from last week.

Getting chances in front of goal...

You're getting into those positions...if I wasn't getting into those positions, I would be more worried, and I would be more disappointed. On another day, two or three of my shots go in. I hit the bar twice and put one wide, but we have been working hard this week in front of goal, and I have no doubt that we will put it right this Saturday.

His partnership with the Ronan Hale and James Brophy...

It has been really good. We [He and Ronan Hale] live really close, and we travel in together, so we are building that connection off the pitch, and it has been good on the pitch as well. You can see in training, and the players can see that we are linking up well.

I like a physical battle. I think that, seeing from the weekend, I put myself about, and when I know that I have got Ronan and Brophy in front of me that can land on balls and take people on. I think that it's a good combination that we have got going.

I think that it's already clicking. Just because we didn't score at the weekend doesn't mean it didn't click. On another day we score two or three between us. I think that we have got a good thing going and I don't think that it's going anywhere, so it's really positive from our point of view.
