The club is delighted to announce the signing of centre-back Liam Gordon on a two-year deal.
The 30-year-old defender arrives at MEMS Priestfield Stadium after leaving Motherwell following two seasons at Fir Park.
Gordon becomes Gareth Ainsworth’s fourth summer acquisition with James Brophy, Zane Albarus and Will Goodwin having already put pen to paper on permanent contracts at ME7.
Liam played youth Football for Dundee and Raith before making his pro debut for Hearts in August 2014. He spent the end of the 2014/15 season on loan with Arbroath before signing for St. Johnstone in the summer of 2015.
He immediately went on loan to Elgin City, making 16 appearances. The following season he went on loan again, this time to Peterhead, playing 11 games.
The defender played 25 games for St. Johnstone over the next two seasons, eventually establishing himself as a first-team regular in 2020/21, featuring on 48 occasions and scoring one goal.
He started in the Scottish FA Cup Final in May 2021, with St. Johnstone defeating Hibs 1-0 at Hampden Park. He was also in the XI for the 1-0 Scottish League Cup triumph over Livingston earlier that same season.
Another 72 games followed in the next two campaigns, netting three times. His final season at St. Johnstone was in 2023/24, with Motherwell acquiring his services in the summer of 2024 on a two-year deal.
He played 57 times for the club over that period, scoring twice. Gills have fended off competition from a number of interested parties to land their man and he will join the rest of his teammates for pre-season testing in early July.
Speaking to the club’s media team he said: “When Gillingham came knocking it was a move that really interested me.
“After speaking with the manager and the rest of the coaching staff I came away with a great feeling about the place.
“I am delighted to be here.”
*The move is subject to EFL ratification and international clearance.
An interview with the player will be available in due course.
