Masterson | "I am raring to go"

Conor

Conor Masterson is looking forward to getting the 2025/26 campaign underway, following Gillingham's 2-0 victory against Dartford at Princes Park on Saturday afternoon.

The defender has enjoyed the pre-season, but cannot wait to for the opening day to arrive, with the Gills travelling to Accrington Stanley next weekend.

Masterson spoke about the importance of the team having a full week to prepare for the trip to Accrington and discussed the positive atmosphere within the dressing room.

Ending pre-season with a win and looking ahead to Accrington Stanley...

It's good for the boys and their confidence. It gets minutes in the legs again, and obviously, it's great to win 2-0 and get a clean sheet.

I am raring to go. I have enjoyed pre-season and it's good to be a Gills player again. I am enjoying it. We are excited to get going now.

We just want to get into the season now. There's one week to go. It's nice to get this game in our legs and I am looking forward to building up towards Accy [Accrington Stanley].

Having a week to prepare for the first game...

We will get all of the work done on the training pitch and get the last few notes from the Gaffer. We will get the last touches that he wants from us, and it will get us fully ready, then we will be fully focused for Accrington away.

The positive atmosphere in the dressing room...

It's a really good group. There are a lot of really nice people in there, and we are all enjoying being here. I think that Gareth [Ainsworth] brings that as well, and Dobbo [Richard Dobson]. They are two really good characters and really honest people, and they just want to get the best out of us. We are really enjoying it.
