Masterson | "It was a proper team performance"

Masto

Conor Masterson hailed a complete team performance following Gillingham's 3-0 win at Harrogate Town on Saturday afternoon.

The central defender was pleased with the way that the team kept pushing throughout and credited the defensive efforts as they came away from North Yorkshire with a much-needed clean sheet.

Masterson scored in his second successive fixture, with a fantastic rising strike. He was pleased to do it in front of the travelling Gillingham fans, who he praised for their brilliant support towards him and the team throughout.

Thoughts on a strong team performance…

I thought that it was a really good performance overall. In the first-half, we created loads of chances, but just didn’t find the goal.

I thought that the way we kept going and the way we kept pushing, and to score three goals and win 3-0, it was a perfect day.

I think that’s the biggest word, character. I think that there is a lot of togetherness out there at the minute and there are a lot of leaders out on the pitch. I think that you can see that. The way we kept going, the way we kept passing the ball, and wanting more and more. It showed, and 3-0 is nice.

I think that we needed a clean sheet. To do that, with it being 3-0, it was a proper team performance. We will take it into Tuesday.

On back-to-back wins…

It’s great. Of course it’s great. We needed that, and I think that the whole club needed that. We need to keep going now. It’s only a win. It’s always a focus on the next one and keep doing it.

On his goal…

I have to say, Clarky, [Max Clark] great ball, and big Josh [Andrews] a great header to me, he has seen me, and I did what I seem to be doing at the minute.

I feel that I’m a goal-scoring centre-half, so I’d like to keep it going!

It’s nice to score goals, and to do it in front of the Gills fans; it was a really nice feeling.

The travelling support…

You know how I feel about the Gills fans. They’ve been brilliant for me, and looking at them there, we gave them what they wanted today. 3-0, they were buzzing with three goals, and a win is always going to make them happy.
