McCleary | "We want to finish the season well"

Garath McCleary is expecting another tough game as Gillingham travel to promotion-chasing Salford City on Saturday.

The Gills head into the game off the back of a victory against Accrington Stanley, but McCleary knows the type of test Salford will provide them at the weekend.

The experienced winger scored the second goal in the 2-0 win on Easter Monday, and talked through his stunning strike.

McCleary was pleased to have rewarded the supporters for their fantastic efforts throughout the season with Monday's win, and is thankful for their continued backing despite the tough period of results.

With the season coming to its closing stages, the former Jamaica international wants to end it as strongly as possible, but knows they will have to work hard to ensure that.

His goal on Easter Monday...

It was nicely weighted. The weight of the pass is basically a message, and it told me to hit it, and I thankfully bent it around the centre-half. I think that the celebration wasn't my most animated!

I could see from the angle behind it that it was going in; unless it was an incredible save from the goalkeeper, but I am just happy that it did, and it didn't take any deflections, and we got the 2-0 win.

On Salford City at the weekend...

When you win a game, it does put a smile on your faces. We obviously know that it is going to be another tough game on Saturday. They are pushing for promotion, and we are going to be trying to upset the party.

We know that every game is going to be tough. Salford are obviously pushing, and they have some really good players. Players that I know personally as well, but every game is going to be tough, and we will be going there hoping to get a win.

The continued fantastic support...

In terms of the fans, the last few months haven't been the greatest, so we are thankful that they stuck with us. Hopefully, we can continue to build.

The fans have followed us, and the away support has been fantastic. We saw that again on [Good] Friday. I was just happy that we could put a smile back on their faces.

Trying to finish the season as strong as possible...

As I have said, it hasn't been great the last few months, so we want to finish as well as possible. We will be going into every game hoping to win and working hard within the week to get that as well. We will be doing all that is possible to get that.
