Team News:

Liam Gordon will be available for selection, having missed the defeat to Luton in the Carabao Cup due to suspension. Ollie Wright returned to training this week, but will be assessed up until the final moments.

Armani Little and Cameron Antwi have been back training on the grass and will be in contention. However, Saturday could come too soon for the pair.

Walsall will have Roman Dixon available for selection after he joined The Saddlers during the week. Ryan Leak has been training ahead of Saturday’s fixture after going off during the first half of Walsall’s win against Bristol City. Alex Pattison remains out injured.

Manager Comments:

Gareth Ainsworth: “They have a new manager in Lee Grant, who has come in and put his stamp down on the team. They did well against Bristol City in the cup, and I watched that game. They had a lot of defending to do and a lot of possession against them, but they held out. The keeper had a great game, and they took their chance when they got it.”

Lee Grant: “Although there wasn’t a lot to separate the two teams last season in terms of points or position in the league. I think that we were nine points, and I think four places away from each other. It is not a huge gulf.

“Both teams, I am certain, will be looking to improve on that, and I know because I can sense it from Gareth [Ainsworth] and Gareth’s interviews that he has got very high expectations of his group. It’s going to be a real test and a real challenge."

Previous Meetings:

Saturday’s fixture will be the 125th meeting between the teams, with the Gills narrowly edging the head-to-head with 48 wins to Walsall’s 47. The fixture has also seen 29 draws.

Our last meeting at ME7 came in August last year, with Gareth Ainsworth’s men coming out on top. After a goalless first half, the game’s only goal came just short of the hour through Bradley Dack. Remeao Hutton’s long throw into the penalty area ricocheted around the box until Andy Smith laid the ball back to Dack, who thumped home from outside the six-yard box.
