Harry Waldock knows that Gillingham are in for a physical battle as they travel to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
The 19-year-old reiterated the need for the Gills to respect Saturday's opponents, who are unbeaten at home in the league so far this season. However, he knows that the team will go there hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the league.
Waldock praised the strong mentality of the squad, who have shown their resilient nature in the first ten games of the season. The midfielder believes that was shown in their response to the defeat at York, as they took a point at home against Newport County before coming from behind to beat Rotherham last Saturday.
This weekend will see the Gills go on another long away journey, the third in four weeks. Waldock discussed how he has been dealing with the away fixtures in his first full season in the first-team.
On the test that Accrington Stanley will provide...
You can't underestimate what Accrington are going to be like. They are going to be a really tough, physical test up there. Being away from home as well, we know that they are strong at home. I don't think that they have lost this season yet, so we are going there and treating it like any other game. We are treating it like a game that we want to go and win, but also respecting what they are going to be like. We know that it is going to be a tough test.
The strong mentality of the squad...
Going behind it can mentally disrupt the team, but we know what we can do. We know that if we stick to our game plan and keep on following our phases of play, then we are going to create chances. There was never a point in the game [vs Rotherham] where we thought that we were 1-0 down let's sit in and maybe collapse a bit.
There was always that belief from me individually, and as a team. Going in at half-time at 1-1, we obviously knew that there was a massive chance to win the game, and we ended up winning the game 4-1.
The other thing that is massive for us is that we obviously went to York and lost, but we didn't back it up with another loss. We got the point, and then backed up the point with a win. It's not like we are going loss with another loss and then a draw. We are backing it up with good results.
Dealing with the long away journeys...
This is sort of my first introduction to that, and it can be difficult. Obviously, there's the idea of the Friday, where you have to travel all of the way there, but the club prepares us in the best way possible. We know what we are doing on a Friday. We prepare in the best way possible on Friday, whether that be here or up at wherever we are going to be playing. The journey back can sometimes be a bit long, but it is not too bad.
Update on his nose after the whack at Rotherham...
The nose is okay. I think that it is broken. I am getting that sorted out tomorrow, so I might have to be wearing Ronan's [Hale] mask for a couple of games, which is a bit annoying! At least it is not ruling me out.
