Marcus Wyllie was ecstatic after scoring his first league goal for the Football Club in the 4-1 win against Chesterfield at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Tuesday.
The forward admitted that it was a relief to finally get off the mark and is hoping that it can provide him with the platform to kick on.
Wyllie explained how his goal came to be, and the great work from Nelson Khumbeni to play the ball at the right time, with Marcus initially in an offside position.
The 26-year-old was delighted for Lenni Cirino, who scored a debut goal and appreciated the efforts of the supporters. Wyllie believes their support throughout helped the team push on to victory.
Emotions of scoring his first league goal...
I think that it was a long time coming. I have waited a long time for that one, and it was definitely worth it. It was really good.
It was a bit of a relief, to be honest, because it had been so long. I didn't expect to wait this long to get that first league goal, but I can't really explain the feeling. I'm just so happy. Hopefully, I can kick on now.
On his goal...
It was really good from Nelson [Khumbeni] to win the ball back, and I was hoping that he wasn't going to play the ball first time because I was offside. Luckily, he noticed that, and we talked about that, and he did say that he noticed it at the time. I was able to pull myself back, and he put a great ball in, and I am buzzing to score.
Discussing the performance...
I felt that everyone played really well and emptied the tank, which is what the Gaffer always wants to see, and I felt that they did that. It helped us when we came on to try and see the game out. We ended up pushing on and getting the win. Chesterfield are a really good side, and they will be up there, so I am really pleased with that.
That's what the Gaffer wants, everyone has emptied the tank. As everyone can see, every single player did that. Even coming off the bench, you are expected to empty the tank and carry on what your teammate who came off was doing, which in my case was for Nev, who worked so hard the whole game, so I just had to carry on doing that for him and the rest of the team.
I think that you can see that we are a strong team in terms of being difficult to break down, and that every single player will fight for each other. That's exactly what we did against a really good side. It was not easy.
Lenni Cirino scoring his first goal...
We actually travelled in together, so we will be having a good journey back home I think. I am really pleased for him as well. He has been working hard and he had an opportunity today and did really well.
The supporters...
It definitely helps when they are that loud whilst we are playing. We can hear them and they do push us on, and I think that is exactly what they did today. They pushed us on. We were in a position, where they had just scored and were putting a bit of pressure on, but we kicked on with the help from the fans and managed to score another couple of goals.
