Gaffer | "We are going to have to be at our best"

Ainsworth

Gareth Ainsworth is expecting a big challenge when his side travels to in-form Colchester United on Saturday.

The Gills boss commended Saturday's hosts for their style of football and knows that his team will have to be at their best to get something from the fixture.

Armani Little returns from his two-match suspension, which Ainsworth is delighted about. He provided team news ahead of the Colchester game, giving updates on the likes of Conor Masterson and Sam Vokes.

In recent weeks, Gillingham have found themselves behind in games, and Ainsworth is keen to turn that trend around. He knows how important the first goal is in setting the tone, and wants his side to be the aggressors.

On Saturday's game...

They will be a really good challenge. They are on a good run. They are a very counter-attacking team, and Danny Cowley has got them going after a sticky start. They are playing really free-flowing football and scoring good goals, so we are going to have to be at our best. There is no reason that we can't go and pick the points up on the day.

It's important that we are organised and know what we are doing, because I am sure that they will be up for it on the run that they are on. It's a fantastic run. Hopefully, we can stop them.

It's an early kick-off, and I think that we are the only game at that time because of the FA Cup, so there are very few league teams playing at the weekend. It's a chance to grab some points and make the weekend count.

Team News...

Marns [Armani Little] is the club captain and a real warrior, a real talisman. He was devastated to be banned for the two games, and we have had that a couple of times this year, which has been tough to take. It is brilliant to have him back, and there are one or two others that are now creeping onto the grass. Conor Masterson has been seen out there, which is great. There are one or two knocks, but we are going with a pretty strong team.

[On Sam Vokes] - He came off with a niggle in his calf, but he felt it early enough for us not to have to worry too much about him being out, which is great. Hopefully, Vokes will make the trip.

I think that Andy [Smith] and Shadrach [Ogie] are both in serious contention for the squad. Conor won't be in the squad, as he is still a few weeks away. Andy and Shad will both hopefully be making the trip.

Having Armani Little back available...

He's your captain and your leader. He problem solves. He drives the team whether he is on the bench, in the side or in the stands. He was out of the squad at Newport, and he wanted to come along and get behind the boys. He was out of the team at Shrewsbury last week and wanted to be on the trip.

Armani is a super character to have around. He is a grafter and a winner, so having him in your squad is definitely something important for this club.

Taking initiative in games...

We have got to make sure that we believe that we can score against teams first. At the moment, it's like we are waiting for something to happen in the game. I have told the boys this, and I want them to make sure that they are the aggressors and they are the ones thinking that we can get a goal and go 1-0 up and capitalise on that.

This game is incredible. You score first, and you probably sit back and defend. You see it so often in the Premier League, not just League One and Two, but goals do change games. They really do. Momentum is huge in that, so we have got to be mentally switched on at the start of the game. We have the tactics, and we have got what we want to put in place in plan. It's over to the boys to execute it.
