Colchester United v Gillingham
Sky Bet League Two
Jobserve Community Stadium
Saturday December 6, 2025
Kick-Off, 12.30pm
Team News:
Armani Little will be in contention to start having served his two-match suspension. Saturday will come too soon for Conor Masterson, as he continues to recover from a calf injury. Gareth Ainsworth is hopeful that Andy Smith and Shad Ogie could be involved.
Sam Vokes will be pushing until the final moments to determine whether he will be fit enough to be involved in the matchday squad, having come off with a calf issue in the draw at Shrewsbury. Josh Andrews, who replaced the former Wales international in the fixture, will be pushing to start after a fine second half display in Shropshire.
Colchester captain Tom Flanagan will miss the fixture following a recent knee injury. Saturday’s game could come too soon for Milton Oni, who continues to ramp up his fitness following an ACL injury.
Kyreece Lisbie and Micah Mbick both scored in Colchester’s win against Cheltenham in their last league fixture and should retain their place in the starting XI.
Manager Comments:
Danny Cowley: “I have had many battles against Gareth Ainsworth and Dobbo [Richard Dobson], his assistant. They are never easy games. His teams always have a good togetherness and spirit. They are always playing in a purposeful and aggressive direct way.
“They ask loads of questions of you, with loads of balls into your box and a load of numbers in your box.”
Gareth Ainsworth: “They will be a really good challenge. They are on a good run. They are a very counter attacking team, and Danny Cowley has got them going after a sticky start. They are playing really free flowing football and scoring good goals, so we are going to have to be at our best.”
Previous Meetings:
Colchester lead the head-to-head, with 33 wins to Gillingham’s 32. The fixture has also seen 28 draws.
Our last victory at the JobServe Community Stadium came on New Year's Day, 2024. After a goalless first-half in which Dom Jefferies and Max Ehmer came close, Scott Malone scored the only goal of the game nine minutes after the break. The left-back made his way into the penalty area before playing a low ball towards the goal. It took a deflection on its way in, wrongfooting the goalkeeper and sneaking in at the near post.
