Gareth Ainsworth was happy to see his team keep another clean sheet on Saturday, but was left disappointed that the final touch couldn't be applied to beat Newport County.
There were a couple of passages of play at ME7 during the game that encouraged the Gills boss, but he credited Newport for the physicality they brought to the game as they made life difficult throughout.
The goalless draw made it three successive home clean sheets for Gillingham, which has pleased Ainsworth, because he knows that is something that they can continue to build upon as the season progresses.
Post-match thoughts...
We are trying to entice teams out and slip the boys in behind and down the sides, and we almost did it. Ronan Hale was on the end of a fantastic move in the second-half. It would have been brilliant for any goal.
They didn't really trouble us. They had a couple of moments with free-kicks. One flashed across the goal, and I think that Ollie [Wright] has made one save at his near post, which I expect him to do. On the flip side, I don't think that we had too many on target today. Harry Waldock has just squeezed it around the post; Ronan's is on target and gets blocked, and Dacky's [Bradley Dack] at the end there.
You have to give them credit. They are a really big team. They were properly putting it on us and being physical with us.
Building off the three successive clean sheets at home...
You have to build your teams on something. Rochdale should have been a clean sheet, but then we had Tranmere [Rovers] and Bristol [Rovers], and today. We had one anomaly in there with York, but I think that these are good signs. We are building these clean sheets, and I think that is something to be proud of and build on. If you talk to any of my defenders and my goalkeeper, they will be happy, as they did their job today.
Being hard to beat...
I don't like just taking points at home; I want to take more at home, but we are hard to beat. Even last week, it was only 1-0 at 11 vs 11, and it took a man to get sent off for them to really open us up. I think that we are very hard to beat, and that is a testament to Andy Smith, Omar [Beckles], Logan [Dobbs] and Ollie Wright. That back three and the two wing-backs- Nick [Freeman] and Broph [James Brophy] at the moment. They are really playing well.
