Gills proud to support Play Safe campaign

PS

We are joining in with Play Safe weekend 2026, starting from October 3.

What is ‘Keep Up The Convo’?

Play Safe 2026 is asking every adult in football to make more opportunities for conversations with children and young people. not just about football; about life, emotions, anything that’s important to them.

It’s about checking in on each other, on and off the pitch, on the sidelines, on the way home, at pick-up and drop-off. Players, parents, coaches, volunteers, match officials. keeping up the convo can be as simple as keepie uppies (without the fancy footwork).

The more we talk, the more we listen, the more we respond. The more children and young people feel heard and the more likely they are to tell us how things are going. Then they are more likely to tell us things which we can help them with.

So this play safe weekend, and beyond, remember to keep up the convo and…

Keep it open

Fun and easy topics make talking easier.

Keep it active

Ask open questions,  then give space to answer.

Keep it going

Reflect, repeat, respond. get active in showing you’re really listening.

Keep up the convo

The more you show up for them, the easier it becomes to keep talking when it matters most.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL. AND YOUR EARS ON THE CONVO
