Galey

We are delighted to announce that Sam Gale has been nominated for the EFL League 2 Young Player of the Season award.

Sam, 21, has played 40 games this season in all competitions and scored one goal. That coming in the 1-0 win over Crewe Alexandra at ME7 in August.

Gale came through the club's academy program and made his first-team debut in November 2021 at home to Cheltenham in a League 1 fixture, coming on as a late sub for Dan Phillips, but became a more regular first-team member following a loan spell at Chelmsford during the 2024/25 season.

He was recalled over Christmas 2024 and has been an ever present in the squad since. In total he has played 63 times for the Gills.

He had previously enjoyed loan spells at both Sheppey and Hastings United. He was voted our "Young Player of the Year" last April and recently signed a new contract which will keep him at MEMS Priestfield Stadium until the summer of 2028.

On being told of his nomination, Sam said: "I am really happy and proud to be nominated. I've had to work hard to get to this point, it's a nice moment and I didn't think I would be in this situation 18 months ago."

The winner of the award will be announced on Sunday April 19 when the EFL Awards are held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The shortlist for the EFL League Two Young Player of the Season, Sponsored by EA Sports, is as follows:

Matty Young – Salford City

Daniel Kanu – Walsall

We wish Sam the best of luck!
