Hale | "I think everyone involved deserves a good game from us"

Hale

Ronan Hale is hoping that Gillingham can end the season with a victory for the supporters as they welcome Shrewsbury Town to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium for the final fixture of the 2025/26 season on Saturday.

The Northern Ireland international knows the importance of ending the season with a win, as it will give everyone a lift heading into the off-season.

Hale discussed how he has found his first few months in English football and how the initial period adjusting to the game will help him heading into the next campaign. He also touched upon Sam Vokes' retirement and his determination to continue scoring goals.

Ending the season with a win...

I think that everyone involved, and more importantly, the fans, deserve a good game from us. We know ourselves that the last two games have been nowhere near good enough. Hopefully, on Saturday, we can go out and put it right and send people home happy for a fresh pre-season.

Everyone wants to be in a good mood going into their off-season. The last couple of away games, and the home game against Grimsby as well, were nowhere near good enough. We all know that, but to win the last game of the season will obviously keep the spirits high going into next season.

On Sam Vokes' retirement...

He is a brilliant, top man. Unfortunately, I joined late in his career, and he could have got me a few more goals. Obviously, when we have played we have had a great connection, and it would have been great to have had a bit more time with him. He is a great man and had a great career. I wish him all the best in what he does next.

On scoring goals...

I think that I should have a couple more. That's just on me. To come in in January and to get five goals, I feel that a couple more is being picky, but as a striker, I just want to be scoring goals. I will set my targets for next year, and hopefully, see what comes of it.

On adjusting to life in League Two and how it will help at the start of next season...

It is exactly what I thought it was going to be. I came in with an open mind, and I gave it a good go. I am looking forward to getting a full season under my belt next year and seeing where it takes us.

[Having the second half of the season to adjust] - Obviously, when I came in, we were mid-table; we have now dropped a few places. It has kind of been that trial period of getting myself moulded into the team, and I have scored a few goals along the way. I am raring to go next season.
