Eli King is hoping that he can hit the ground running having signed for the football club on a permanent transfer from Cardiff City on deadline day.
King spoke of the whirlwind of a day and how his eventual transfer came about, with Gillingham's new signing present for the draw at Chesterfield.
The 23-year-old discussed his experiences in the game to date, having played in Scotland and Leagues One and Two. The midfielder also touched upon his versatility and what fans can expect to see from him on the field.
How the deadline day deal came about...
I woke up this morning [Tuesday] with a whole world of different things potentially going on. I got wind of serious interest from Gillingham. Considering all of my circumstances, I thought that it was the best decision for me. All the contract stuff was all sorted on the motorway, and I am here now.
What fans can expect...
I have made lots of appearances now. I am 23 and have played League One, League Two, Scottish Prem as well, and a little bit of the Championship. As a player, I can play as a six, an eight, box-to-box, and get around the pitch. I am athletic and like to get on the ball. I try to pass through the lines and switch play, and show the defensive side as well. I work hard, put the metres in for the boys, and I think that I am a leader as well. I can lead groups and use my experience that I have gained over the last five years to really make a mark on this team.
On potentially making his debut against Rochdale on Saturday...
I am really excited. Hopefully get training over the next few days and put myself in contention for Saturday. Hopefully I hit the ground running and we pick up some points.
