Sky Bet League Two

The EV Charger Points Stadium

Tuesday April 14, 2026

Kick-Off, 7.45pm

Team News:

Gareth Ainsworth admitted that he could rotate his squad to avoid players picking up injuries heading into the close season. Garath McCleary is a doubt, having battled through an Achilles issue during the draw at Salford, and will be assessed until the final moments. Robbie McKenzie could play a part, while Harry Waldock’s fitness will be continued to be monitored.

Ex-Gillingham loanee Robbie Cundy should feature for Cheltenham Town, having been a regular starter in recent months. Josh Martin will be pushing for a place in the starting XI after scoring late on in their 4-0 win at Walsall.

Mo Faal and George Nurse are likely to start as substitutes, as Steve Cotterill manages their fitness.

Manager Comments:

Steve Cotterill: “We have another game on Tuesday, so I'll go and enjoy tonight [Saturday] and tomorrow morning start on Gillingham and have a little think about how it looks on Tuesday night.”

Gareth Ainsworth: “We will have a look at rotating on Tuesday, because I don't want any injuries. Anyone that knows football they don't want to be injured in the summer. They need to finish the season positively, do their work and get back for next season. There will be no risk of anyone.

"It will be no easy task. We will go there with our tails up after a performance like this [Salford], and hopefully, we can get something out of the game.”

Previous Meetings:

The most common result between the two teams has been the draw, occurring 11 times in all competitions. Gillingham have won five times, while Cheltenham have won four.

A memorable Gillingham victory at Cheltenham came in March 2011, thanks to late heroics from Cody McDonald. Steve Elliott thumped Cheltenham into the lead after three minutes when he got on the end of Danny Andrews’ cross from the left-hand side.

The hosts held onto their lead until four minutes from time. Having initially hit the post with his first header, McDonald reacted the quickest, meeting the rebound with a diving header that bounced into the open net.

In stoppage time, McDonald scored his second and what proved to be the winner. Adebayo Akinfenwa had the ball on the right side of the Cheltenham penalty area, where he looped a cross in the direction of the six-yard box. McDonald outjumped his marker and guided his header past Scott Brown, causing bedlam amongst the travelling support.
