Gillingham v Accrington Stanley
Sky Bet League Two
MEMS Priestfield Stadium
Monday April 6, 2026
Kick-Off, 3pm
Team News:
Armani Little will be available for selection, having served his two-match suspension. Gareth Ainsworth will have to assess his squad ahead of the Easter Monday fixture, making sure they came out of the draw with Walsall in a clean bill of health. Nelson Khumbeni will be pushing to keep his place in the starting XI.
Accrington Stanley’s Devon Matthews is a doubt after going off against Bristol Rovers and did not feature in their win against Crewe on Good Friday. Paddy Madden will be pushing to start the game for Monday’s visitors, having come off the bench in their previous fixture.
Manager Comments:
Gareth Ainsworth: “John Doolan has got a really good squad together, and they work so hard as a team together.
“We will go up against a tough Accrington side, but we are at home, and it is Easter Monday, and thankfully, we did not get beat today. We got a good, well-deserved point away from home, and that is something to build on.”
John Doolan [after win over Crewe]: "We are looking a bit more like ourselves. I am really pleased and I couldn't have asked for any more.
"In the first-half we did quite well, but certain basics let us down. To go out in the second-half and do what we did was outstanding."
Previous Meetings:
Easter Monday will be the 25th meeting between the two clubs, with Gillingham leading the head-to-head with 12 wins to Accrington’s six. There have also been six draws between the teams.
Gills came out on top when Accrington Stanley visited the MEMS Priestfield Stadium in March 2011. They got off to the perfect start when Andy Barcham opened the scoring after two minutes. The winger used his pace to latch onto Kevin Maher’s ball forward ahead of the oncoming Alex Cisak before sliding the ball into an empty net.
The visitors levelled in the 14th minute when Joe Jacobson’s cross found Sean McConville at the back post, and he scored from close range. Barcham would restore the Gillingham advantage on the stroke of half-time as he did well to chest down Bayo Akinfenwa’s flick on into the penalty area before lofting the ball into the far bottom corner.
Cody McDonald added a third ten minutes into the second period when he connected with John Nutter’s cross towards the back post, thumping his header into the roof of the net.
