Gillingham v Luton Town
Carabao Cup First Round
MEMS Priestfield Stadium
Saturday August 8, 2026
Kick-Off, 3pm
Team News:
Saturday will come too soon for Cameron Antwi as he looks to build his fitness following a spell on the sidelines. Lennon MacLorg will miss the fixture due to an injury he picked up against Millwall in pre-season.
Ollie Wright will require a late fitness test, as he works his way back from an injury that kept him out of pre-season. Bradley Dack will not be involved.
Luton will be without Shandon Baptiste, as he continues to work his way back from a serious knee issue that he suffered. Thomas Holmes, Reuell Walters, Lasse Nordas and Jerry Yates are unlikely to feature.
Manager Comments:
Gareth Ainsworth - “I want to play my strongest team and see where we are. If anything, we need to find out about each other. There are a lot of new faces in my team and we need to find out what we want for the win.”

Jack Wilshere - “It’s not a dress rehearsal, it’s the real thing. I think that we have had five dress rehearsals now in pre-season, and like I said, this if the first game. The one that we want to be competitive in.”
Previous Meetings:
The Gills last hosted Luton at ME7 in November 2018, when The Hatters ran out 3-1 winners.
Andrew Shinnie opened the scoring on 25 minutes with a smart finish outside the penalty area. In the second-half, an Elliot Lee brace put the game out of sight for the visitors.
Tom Eaves pulled a goal back with less than 20 minutes remaining. He received the ball on the right side of the penalty area, doing well to bring it under control before sending a low driven volley into the far corner of the net. However, it proved only to be a consolation.
