Salford City v Gillingham
Sky Bet League Two
Peninsula Stadium
Saturday April 11, 2026
Kick-Off, 3pm
Team News:
Armani Little is pushing to be involved for Saturday’s game after being forced off in the win against Accrington due to a finger injury. However, every precaution will be taken before a decision is made. Harry Waldock is a doubt as he continues his recovery from a knock to his ankle.
Conor Masterson, who made his long-awaited return to match action on Monday, should be involved again at the weekend.
Former Gills loanee Haji Mnoga should be involved in the Salford squad for Saturday’s fixture. Daniel Udoh and Fabio Borini will be pushing for starts, having come off the bench in Salford’s defeat against Crewe on Monday.
Manager Comments:
Karl Robinson: “Losing’s never nice, but when your next game is at home I think it gives you an opportunity to bounce back.
“You get that opportunity to build momentum with your fan base, people in the local area, because more people support you when you’re at home and if you’re going to grow year in, year out, you’re going to have to make your home ground a fortress.”
Gareth Ainsworth: “It was one of my early games last year, and Remeao [Hutton] scored a worldie with a left footer. It was a tough place to go, and I think that it will be even tougher this year. I think that Karl [Robinson] has got a good squad and he has been able to spend some money on them.
“They came here, and I think that I watched that from a hospital bed if I remember, and they were quite powerful, especially in midfield. We will have to look at how we want to set up against them.”
Previous Meetings:
Saturday will be the eighth meeting between the two teams, with the Gills leading the head-to-head with four victories to Salford’s two. The fixture has only seen one draw, which came at the Peninsula Stadium last season.
All of the action occurred in a back-and-forth opening 25 minutes, as the two sides ended up settling for a share of the points.
Elliott Nevitt opened the scoring in the second minute. Max Clark won possession halfway inside the Gills half before playing a pass in behind for Nevitt to chase. The forward cut inside onto his right foot before shooting, with a heavy deflection taking the ball into the back of the net.
The hosts soon turned the game on its head, finding themselves in front after a quarter of an hour. Their first goal came when Cole Stockton connected with Ben Woodburn’s cross, squeezing the ball past Glenn Morris. Kelly N’Mai made it 2-1 to Salford when he received the ball and was able to carry it towards the Gillingham penalty area, evading a couple of challenges, before letting fly from 20 yards. His low drive flew into the bottom right corner, leaving Morris with no chance of keeping it out.
Remeao Hutton brought the Gills back on level terms nine minutes later. He cut out a pass inside the Salford half before making his way towards the box. He shifted the ball onto his left foot before bending a fantastic strike into the far top corner of the net.
Joe Gbode had the visitors’ best chance to win the game late on when he fired goalward from outside the box. However, it went over the crossbar, as the game ended in two apiece.
