Report | Dover Athletic 0-3 Gillingham

Dayal

Gills began their pre-season campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win over Dover at Crabble on Tuesday.

Goals from Kadeem Harris, Louie Dayal and Sam Gale ensured victory on the coast for Gareth Ainsworth’s side.

The Gills boss named a different XI in either half, as expected, with Taite Holtam starting in goal for the opening 45 with Seb Palmer-Houlden up front.

Liam Gordon joined Logan Dobbs and Andy Smith in the centre of defence with Damien Theodore and Kadeem Harris operating as wing-backs.

And it was Harris who opened the scoring on 13 minutes when he received the ball on the left side, took on his man, and found space for a shot which beautifully found the opposite corner.

Zane Albarus had a half chance six minutes later. Theodore came forward and showed good strength to offload the ball to the former Brighton man who went for goal, but his effort lacked power and Walker gathered.

Damien Theodore came close to adding a second prior to the interval. Smith’s shot had been blocked but it fell nicely for the midfielder who guided a right-footed effort just wide of the post.

There was still time however for Booth, on for Dack, to test the Dover keeper when his header needed to be held following a cross from Waldock. Palmer-Houlden did put the ball in the net soon after, but the offside flag was up.

Sully Booth stayed on the pitch for the second half and it didn’t take long for a second goal to be scored when Louie Dayal produced a tidy finish beyond the goalkeeper from the left side of the penalty area.

In the 67th minute Dover went close when Salami, on as a sub, turned and struck from range. MacLorg was at full stretch but was pleased to see the effort go wide of his left post.

Ronan Hale was unlucky not to register a third but his effort went wide of Walker’s right post, before Sam Gale finally did put the result beyond doubt.

Little’s free-kick was sent to the back stick and Gale made a late run before producing an excellent volley into the opposite corner.

Dover nearly pulled one back late on, but a Trialist put an effort just wide with MacLorg rooted to the spot.
