Josh Andrews scored his second goal in as many games to help Gills seal a 1-0 win over Notts County at MEMS Priestfield Stadium and extend the club’s unbeaten league run to 20 games.
The big striker drifted into the box shortly after the half-time break and buried a header into the bottom right corner following a superb cross from Remeao Hutton.
Gareth Ainsworth made two changes to the side that drew at Bromley last weekend.
Bradley Dack and Jonny Smith came in for Armani Little and Ethan Coleman who missed out due to injury. Shad Ogie returned to the squad with Nelson Khumbeni also sitting out due to a knock.
Gills were the better of the two teams early on and nearly took the lead in fortunate circumstances when Hutton decided to whip in a low left footed cross. It missed everybody and Kelle Roos had to be alert to palm the ball around the post for a corner.
Bradley Dack had a shot which went over, before nearly turning home a ball across the face of goal from Elliott Nevitt.
Notts created a good chance for Alassana Jatta but the striker put an effort from close range over the top following a precise cross from Jacob Bedeau.
H/T: Gillingham 0-0 Notts County
With less than a minute on the clock in the second half, Gills got the opening goal of the game. Hutton had space on the right wing and Andrews drifted into the box unmarked; the cross was inch perfect and the header equally brilliant to find the bottom corner.
Jonny Smith, on his home debut, came close to grabbing a second but his header following a Dack cross was guided just wide.
The hosts, although only a goal up, appeared in control of proceedings but the Magpies nearly got themselves back on level terms when sub, Jodi Jones, had time and space on the edge of the box for a shot but he failed to make the desired contact and Morris remained untroubled.
In stoppage time Elliott Nevitt came within inches of getting a well deserved goal, but his effort missed the right post by a matter of inches. Aaron Rowe went through on goal in the final seconds but Roos did well to narrow the gap and block the shot.
