Team News:

Garath McCleary is suspended for the game and there are one or two knocks that the management will assess up until the last moment.

Seb Palmer-Houlden and Shad Ogie could return, with Bradley Dack also a potential option. Jonny Smith and Travis Akomeah are available to make their home debuts.

As for Notts County, Matthew Dennis is likely to lead the line as the division’s top goalscorer. Jodi Jones and Oli Norburn are familiar faces who could make the XI.

Gareth Ainsworth - “County are a good side – they lost David McGoldrick who was a big player for them last year (the striker signed for Barnsley in the summer) but they seem to have replaced well with Matt Dennis up front and Alassana Jatta (who is a Ghanaian international) who will be a good player in this division.”

Martin Paterson - “Four is a mini-run. We need to continue to get better.

“A clean sheet is something that I’ve been banging on to my staff and the players about. There is a requirement to do things at this level.”

It proved to be a goal worthy of winning any game, as Iffy Onuora scored the match-winner on 75 minutes. He ran from inside the Gillingham half, using his pace to race beyond the Notts County defence.

When Onuora found himself 25 yards from the goal, he spotted Darren Ward off his line. The forward attempted an audacious chip that looped over Ward’s head and hit the back of the net, ensuring the three points.
