Gillingham FC have clinched the signing of defender Gavin Hoyte on a free transfer until January 18

Gillingham have added to their defensive options with the signing of Gavin Hoyte on a free transfer.

Hoyte, 24, was released by Dagenham & Redbridge at the end of last season but has now agreed a five month deal at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, keeping him at the club until January 18.

The former Arsenal man has over 100 professional appearances to his name and will provide cover for Matt Fish and Josh Hare.

On capturing his signature Manager Peter Taylor said: "I'm pleased to have Gavin on board - he has trained with us for a couple of weeks and has a lot of games under his belt.

"After looking at him we have decided to offer him a contract until the middle of January, I am looking forward to working with him."

It is unknown whether he will play any part in tonight's game against Swindon, but will be available for Saturday's trip to Barnsley.

Gavin has been given shirt number 31.
