Max Clark is expecting a difficult test as Gillingham face a new-look Newport County for the third time this season on Saturday afternoon.
The left-back is looking forward to being back in front of supporters at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium after what was a productive week heading into the fixture.
Gills are coming off an extended break, which Clark welcomed as an opportunity for the team to reset. He also touched upon how it gave players the chance to get back to full fitness ahead of the second half of the league campaign.
Preparing for Newport County...
We always prepare ourselves in the way that we do. We always look at ourselves first before we do them, but they have a different manager now, and different players. They brought some new players in, so it will be a different team to what we played the last two times there. We are looking forward to it.
Being at home always gives us a boost with the fans behind us. It will be a good game.
It has been a good, productive week. Everyone is confident and we need to show up and stand up and believe that we can be better, because we know that we can.
Using the mini break as an opportunity to reset...
The Christmas period is always a busy schedule, so it has been nice to reset going into the second half of the season. It has allowed us to work on things that we can't normally do because of how tight the fixtures are together. It has given us a reset to move forward.
Things have been positive. The Gaffer [Gareth Ainsworth] has been positive, Dobbo [Richard Dobson] has been positive, and everyone in the building is looking forward to the second half of the season, where we are going to show that everyone needs to chip in with goals. Don't put too much pressure on the strikers. We need to be better, our end product needs to be better, and we all need to work together to help each other out.
The squad getting back to full fitness over the break...
It gave more people time to get back fit, so the squad is coming back together now. Everyone is getting back fit, so there is a lot of competition there, which is healthy in the group. It's a positive mindset going into tomorrow with everyone involved.
