Dack | "We have to be better around the box"

Bradley Dack conceded there was a collective feeling of frustration following the 1-1 draw at home to Barnet on Saturday.

The visitors had taken the lead through Callum Stead, only for Dack to score a sensational free-kick just before the interval.

The Gills were the better of the two teams in the second-half but couldn’t find a way past Cieran Slicker a second time.

Speaking to the media after the game, Bradley said: “Difficult one, I think in the first-half we weren’t really at the races, we’ve definitely got to play better than that and in the second-half I think we had the majority of the game, we just didn’t do enough to get that winner. So, yeah, frustrating.

“Obviously we know we’re good at playing on the front foot, playing in behind, getting up the pitch quick and I don’t think we quite got to grips with the game in the first-half. We didn’t land on enough second balls when that was the game, to get those second balls and then that was where we could play after that.

“In the second-half we were a lot better without really creating loads and loads. I think we have to be better around the box, decision-making in the final third has got to improve.

“I think if you look up at the higher divisions that’s the difference, decision-making is better, more ruthless in both boxes.”

Dack’s free-kick was a special effort and, although he stated he always enjoys those types of moments, he would always prefer for the team to win regardless of who is scoring.

“Of course it’s special to score a goal like that to get the team back in the game and obviously in the end earn a point. But yeah, I’d take not scoring and getting three points every day of the week, so more disappointment. Obviously it's nice to be back amongst the goals again but yeah, we need to win our home games.

“It [the free-kick] was a little downwind which actually helps. Obviously the ball goes quicker and yeah, it was nice to see it nestle in the top corner.”
