Gareth Ainsworth admitted his side had thrown away two points following Gillingham's 2-2 draw with Barrow at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Saturday.
Gills led the game 2-0 after a strong first-half display, which Ainsworth wants to see more of. However, he was left frustrated with the second-half performance, knowing that his side are better than they showed.
The Gillingham manager provided an update on Nelson Khumbeni, who went off with an injury during stoppage time, as well as giving updates on other players in the squad heading into the festive period.
Reflecting on the draw...
In that second-half, we chucked two points away. I don't like doing that. I am a proud man, and once I have the three points, I want to keep them.
We had some major chances in the first-half that we should have put in. We should have been out of sight, but unfortunately, we weren't. I asked for more goals at half-time, and I got them from Barrow, not from Gillingham.
We looked tired and deep. Not too like us in the second-half.
What I will say is that I was pleased for Elliott Nevitt; I thought that he did really well. He has been out of the team and came back in. Bradley [Dack], Aaron Rowe, and Remeao [Hutton] sort of ran that first-half with the chances that we were creating. There are definite positives there.
Injury updates...
[On Nelson Khumbeni] -
I think he has done his shoulder, so that will be a nasty one for Nelson, but he's young enough to get over that. He will be back stronger.
Jonny Smith looks like he will be involved next week, which is great. I think that Conor [Masterson] is very close, and the two big guys are close. We are slowly getting them back now for that Christmas period, which looks very tough. I am going to need my total squad for that.
Work to do moving forward...
That's my first game on the touchline at home following the surgery, and that first-half is something that I want to see more of. We will work hard in training. We are a lot better than what we were, but there are still changes to be made here, and I will make sure that I keep making them to make us better.
