Gareth Ainsworth nominated for September League 2 Manager of the Month award

Gareth

Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth has been nominated for the Sky Bet League 2 Manager of the Month award for September.

The team accumulated 10 points from a possible 15 during the month, with the only defeat coming at York City. A draw at Chesterfield was followed up with victories against Rochdale, Tranmere and Bristol Rovers.

All nominees are as follows:

Gareth Ainsworth (Gillingham)

Gillingham are offering positive signs that Ainsworth’s approach is beginning to work. With new players bedded in and his wing-backs offering width, his side is creating and converting chances with 10 goals and 10 points from five games.

Peter Cklamovski (Salford City)

Cklamovski’s tenure at Salford began with three league defeats. He turned that around impressively in September with his team’s passing game pleasing on the eye. He was rewarded with a rise up the table and 13 points from a possible 15.

Steve Cotterill (Cheltenham Town)

Having steered Cheltenham clear of relegation last season, Cotterill has instilled thoughts of promotion this campaign. He has blended new signings into an attacking approach which brought 11 goals and 11 points from five unbeaten games.

Ian Watson (Rochdale)

New to the EFL, Watson has had to convince the Rochdale fans quickly of his managerial worth after a sticky August. With injured players returning, his methods saw an upturn in results with a haul of ten points from five games.

ALL WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER 2026

The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
