James Brophy is among the nominees for the Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month award for September.
The 32-year-old, who joined the Gills in the summer on a two-year deal, scored three times during the month, including a sensational solo effort at Rochdale on September 5. He netted twice at Spotland before scoring the opener against Bristol Rovers at MEMS Priestfield Stadium on September 19.
Nominees are as follows:
James Brophy (Gillingham) wing-back/midfielder
Brophy showed his versatility in September, equally effective and reliable in an attacking midfield role or as a wing-back. His three goals included two stunners at Rochdale, a delightful curler and a mazy run and finish at pace.
Charlie McCann (Cheltenham Town) - midfielder
McCann tapped into rich scoring form with five goals in as many games. Popping up wherever he was needed, both winning the ball and driving through the middle or making an overlapping run into the box, his finishing was calmness personified.
Joe Powell (Salford City) - midfielder
Powell has settled in well at Salford and is now pulling the midfield strings as the link between defence and attack with his astute passing. He also scored with two wonder strikes, at former club Rotherham and a week later against Swindon.
Jed Ward (Walsall) – goalkeeper
Ward made at least one pivotal save in each of Walsall’s five games, keeping three clean sheets. His athleticism was especially to the fore in the draw at Tranmere with a string of brilliant stops, including a superb first-half penalty save.
ALL WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON FRIDAY 9 OCTOBER 2026
The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Chief Executive Trevor Birch and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
