Gillingham have clinched the signature of winger, Jonny Smith, on loan from Wigan Athletic until the end of the season.
The 28-year-old attacker, formerly of Burton Albion, arrives on transfer deadline day and becomes the second signing of the afternoon following the arrival of Travis Akomeah.
Smith has already played twice for Wigan this season and the Gills have fended off competition from other clubs to secure the deal.
Jonny came through the youth ranks at Wrexham and made his debut in February 2016 as a second half substitute against Macclesfield at Moss Rose.
That would prove to be his only appearance for the Red Dragons, after agreeing a deal to join Bristol City in the summer of that same year.
He then enjoyed loan spells with Cheltenham, AFC Fylde, Tranmere and Oldham before choosing to join Burton in the summer of 2021. He made 86 appearances in total for the Brewers, scoring 12 goals.
Following the expiration of his contract in 2023, he signed for Wigan. He has, to date, featured 77 times for the League 1 club, and scored ten goals.
On arriving at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, Jonny said: "The staff have been really welcoming; I know Elliott Nevitt and he told me a lot of good things.
"It was a no brainer to come and join. I like to get at people, score goals, and get fans off their seats!"
An interview with the player will appear in due course.
