Hale | "It's a good performance to build on"

Hale

Ronan Hale was glad that Gillingham ended their five-game losing run on Good Friday by securing a point in a 2-2 draw with Walsall at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

The forward scored his fourth goal for the Football Club, capping off a well-worked move by the Gills that saw fine link-up between Hale, Seb Palmer-Houlden and Garath McCleary. The visitors then took the lead when Palmer-Houlden capitalised on a defensive mistake, but were immediately pegged back when Daniel Kanu bundled home from close range. Hale acknowledges that it was a kick in the teeth after the team had worked so hard to get in front.

However, he was impressed with how they fought throughout to ensure they left the Bescot with a result, as Walsall applied plenty of pressure in search of a late winner.

Around 400 Gillingham supporters made the journey to the Midlands, and Hale was appreciative of another fantastic effort by the travelling contingent. The Northern Ireland international also looked ahead to Monday's game with Accrington Stanley at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium.

On his goal and his feelings on the game...

It was a good team goal. Obviously, it came up and was played into me, and I have set it off to Seb [Palmer-Houlden], then got it back off him. I played it into G [Garath McCleary] and got the return and finished it. I think that is the easiest way to put it. You get it on the ground and go and get a finish, and I thought that it was brilliant today.

Obviously, it was a great turnaround, but then we concede the second goal, and it's a kick in the stomach. It's a good performance to build on, and hopefully, we take it into Monday.

Assessment of the game...

When we went 1-0 down, it was kind of a kick in the teeth. We got the ball down, as I said, and the first goal happened. It felt like we were playing with freedom, and the boys were enjoying getting on the ball. We get that second goal, and listen, we are away from home, they are obviously going to come out guns blazing again.

We concede that second goal, but I thought the boys did amazingly to hold on for the draw. I would have liked the win, obviously, but you take a point away from home.

On the continued brilliant travelling support...

They were brilliant today. They were non-stop, and we appreciate everything that they are doing. They are travelling up and down the country, and obviously, the performances haven't been good enough for them. We know that, and we are looking to put it right for them, hopefully. Today is obviously a point, and hopefully, we can put it right on Monday.

Looking to Accrington Stanley on Monday...

I am really looking forward to it. It's one of those where we are off that losing streak now, and we have got a point, so I am hoping that it bleeds confidence into the boys, and we can go out on Monday and just enjoy ourselves, and put on a show for the fans coming in.
