The club is saddened to learn that former player, John Meredith, has sadly passed away at the age of 85.
The winger played 250 times for Gillingham in all competitions, scoring seven times. He sits 28th in our all-time appearance records.
John began his career with Doncaster Rovers before moving to Sheffield Wednesday in 1961. A brief stint at Hillsborough was followed by three years at Chesterfield before making the move to Medway in early 1964. He played in the final 11 games of that season (63-64), helping the club win the Division Four title on goal average.
After leaving Priestfield, John signed for Bournemouth and Boscombe Athletic before ending his playing career with Hastings United. He also managed the East Sussex side for a short while in 1971.
Our thoughts and condolences are with John's family, friends and loved ones at this difficult time.
