Morris | "We have to really step up"

Cat

Glenn Morris is expecting a tough afternoon as Gillingham take on Walsall on Good Friday, with former Gill Darren Byfield currently in charge of the Saddlers.

The goalkeeper understands how important finishing the season strongly will be for the Football Club, bringing a feel good factor and building momentum ahead of the summer.

Morris also touched upon a recent ankle issue and the rotation between the goalkeepers in previous weeks.

The importance of finishing the season strong…

We want to have a good end to the season, and pick up some wins to try and get a feel good factor about the place and try and lift everyone. We have a couple of games in quick succession, which can really help in that sense.

We’ve had injuries and a lot of things go against us. We can’t use that as an excuse; there is still enough in the building to get some positive results.

We have said a lot of things, and we have to really step up sooner or later.

On the trip to Walsall…

It will be tricky. They have Darren Byfield as their manager, and they have picked up. It will be tough. It is always tough when you go to Walsall anyway, and I’m sure it will be. If we can go there and put in a performance, then it will be a big lift for everyone.

On his slight ankle knock and being in and out of the team…

I had a little bit of an ankle problem, but it’s all good. I feel good now. It’s what happens sometimes. You get a few niggles here and there, but I actually feel good at the minute.

It’s not ideal, but that’s the way that it has been. We are searching for something that is going to get us some results. I fully understand that, and that is the way that it goes in football. As a goalkeeping department, we have to try and concentrate on our own thing and back up whoever is in the goal, and that’s all that you can do.
