Gillingham v Fleetwood Town
Sky Bet League Two
MEMS Priestfield Stadium
Saturday March 7, 2026
Kick-Off, 3pm
Team News:
Armani Little, Cameron Antwi and Bradley Dack all have a chance of being involved in the matchday squad for Saturday’s game. Nelson Khumbeni and Conor Masterson will miss the Fleetwood fixture as they continue their recoveries from injury.
Josh Andrews is back in contention, having missed the win against Barrow due to a dead leg that he picked up in the defeat to Oldham.
Matt Lawlor confirmed that several long-term absentees are not ready to rejoin the matchday squad ahead of Saturday’s fixture. The game will likely come too soon for Harrison Holgate.
Kayden Hughes and Josh Powell were substitutes for Fleetwood’s win against Walsall and could be involved again. Toby Mallarkey is fit and available for selection ahead of Saturday.
Manager Comments:
Gareth Ainsworth: “I just want my boys to empty the tank on that pitch, and that is good enough for me. I know that we have got enough in this squad to win this game, but Fleetwood are a good side, and they will be thinking the same. We just want to play free at home, and like I say, hopefully, we will have a smile on our face at the end of the game.”
Matt Lawlor: “We’re expecting a big, physical side with real clarity in how they play. They’ve got quality players as well, Bradley for example is a fantastic footballer, technically excellent, and they’ve got a real presence up front in someone like Sam Vokes who can cause problems.”
Previous Meetings:
Saturday will be the 21st game between the two clubs, with Fleetwood leading the head-to-head with ten wins to Gillingham’s four. There have also been six draws in this fixture.
Our last win against Fleetwood came in November 2018. Gills took early command of the game, scoring twice inside the opening 20 minutes. Brandon Hanlan opened the scoring after 11 minutes. He capitalised on an under-hit back pass, which he latched onto before rounding Alex Cairns, who was left in no man’s land, and slotted into the back of an empty net.
Tom Eaves made it two in the 18th minute. Darren Oldaker played a long cross-field pass into the penalty area, which Eaves did incredibly to control with his chest. Cairns came off his line to close the angle, but the forward did brilliantly to squeeze his shot past the goalkeeper and in at the near post.
The hosts made it three, completing the scoring ten minutes after half-time. Connor Ogilvie got down the left-hand side before curling a perfect cross towards the six-yard box, which Eaves met, heading it into the ground and beyond Cairns.
