Michael Duff reiterated that he will make changes ahead of the fixture. Donnell McNeilly, Caolan Boyd-Munce, Junior Quitirna, Magnus Westergaard and Alex Lowry will all be pushing for starts after coming off the bench in Wycombe’s victory against Leyton Orient.

Bradley Fink, who started and scored in Wycombe’s 3-0 win against Fulham Under 21s in their previous group game, could feature.

Manager Comments:

Gareth Ainsworth: “It will be really special for me to be against Wycombe. It always will be. You cannot take that away from me. I have never been back to Adams Park yet, but to have them at our place, and I know that it is the trophy which is not as well supported as league and cup games, but I am still going to enjoy that one.”

Michael Duff: “There will be changes in the team, with respect to the under 18s, we’re not playing the kids. We might not win, but if we don’t win it won’t be because the team isn’t strong enough to win the game. We want to win it. It’s to get into the next round and winning breeds winning. But it is more games and more opportunities to give people opportunities.”

Previous Meetings:

Gillingham lead the head-to-head with ten wins to Wycombe’s nine. There have also been nine draws.

The only meeting between the two clubs in the EFL Trophy came in November 2005 at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium. The game ended in a 2-2 draw after first-half braces by Matt Jarvis and Charlie Griffin.

Jarvis opened the scoring on 23 minutes. Darren Byfield’s defence-splitting pass put Jarvis through on goal, and he did just enough to prod the ball past the oncoming Iain Turner. The winger hit the back of the net for a second time four minutes later, as Neil Harris latched onto a ball down the right before squaring it to Jarvis, who had an easy tap-in.

However, the game turned on its head shortly before half-time. Griffin scored his first in the 39th minute, rifling a shot from close range into the roof of the net. He equalised just three minutes later from the penalty spot to put the Chairboys on level terms heading into the break.

The fixture remained all square after 90 minutes, and after extra time, meaning penalties would decide the tie. Wycombe came out on top, winning 3-1 in the shootout.
