Shrewsbury Town v Gillingham

Croud Meadow

Sky Bet League Two

Saturday November 29, 2025

Kick-Off, 3pm

Team News:

Conor Masterson and Euan Williams remain the longer-term injury absentees for the Gills, while Armani Little will serve the second of his two-match suspension. Logan Dobbs is available for selection, having been recalled from his loan at Tonbridge Angels.

The likes of Andy Smith, Shad Ogie and Elliott Nevitt will be pushing to be fit in time for the game, having missed the draw at home to Barnet last Saturday. The Shrewsbury fixture will come too soon for Glenn Morris, as he continues to ramp up his recovery from injury.

Michael Appleton will be without Bradley Ihionvien, who remains out injured for six to eight weeks. However, George Lloyd could return to the Shrewsbury squad on Saturday, depending on how he fares in training.

Striker John Marquis is set to start against the Gills, having played for the club earlier in his career on loan from Millwall.

Manager Comments:

Michael Appleton: “We’re a little healthier than we were last week. One player has got a knock that might not make it, I think hopefully he’ll be okay.

"The three points are so big for us. Obviously, Gillingham are in a much healthier place, and will clearly want to come here and take all three points. I get that, but there is a must and a need from us to win the three points.

"I don’t want the players focussing on anything else but actually going and sticking to the game plan of what we give them, and being good enough to execute what we want."

Gareth Ainsworth: “It will be a tough Shrewsbury team. They have got very experienced defenders, and John Marquis. I had a great affinity with John, who is a great player, and a good leader and captain. I really respected him and what he has done, but they have changed quite a bit.

“I think that John is the only survivor from my day in the team at the moment, so that is a huge change of personnel, and we want to try and take advantage of that.”

Previous Meetings:

Shrewsbury lead the head-to-head, with 26 wins to Gillingham’s 20. The fixture has also seen 25 draws.

Our last victory at Shrewsbury came in August 2016, thanks to an impressive second-half turnaround. The Shrews raced into a two-goal lead thanks to a Louis Dodds brace in the first half. However, Gillingham pulled a goal back just short of the hour through Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. Bradley Dack curled a cross towards the six-yard box, finding an unmarked Emmanuel-Thomas, who headed the ball into the bottom corner from a central position.

The forward scored his second to level the game on 73 minutes. He picked the ball up just inside the hosts' half before carrying it forwards for 15 yards and unleashing a stunning strike from 35 yards out, which flew into the top corner of the net, leaving Jayson Leutwiler with no hope.

Gills completed the stunning turnaround in the closing moments. Bradley Dack curled a corner into the box, which was allowed to bounce, falling to Max Ehmer, who volleyed the ball across the goal and into the far bottom corner.
