Jake Turner was frustrated that Gills could not hold on for victory against Crawley Town, but he realised that, upon reflection, Saturday's 2-2 draw is one they will take as a positive.
The goalkeeper was awarded the sponsors' "Man of the Match," having made several key saves throughout the game. Turner discussed the match and how resilient the team have been when defending this season.
Turner, who has deputised for Glenn Morris this season, spoke about the tight-knit relationship that he and the rest of the goalkeeping group have together, but is ready to try and stake his claim to remain in the team.
On Crawley and the game...
They are a good side. They keep the ball very well, and the way that their manager likes to play is very possession-based. We knew that going into the game, we were going to have to suffer and give up the ball a bit. I thought that we did that quite well. In the first-half, we weathered the storm a bit, and then we got the goal towards the end. It's a shame that we couldn't hold on.
Both teams will probably reflect on that in the week and say that it's a good point.
The solidity of the team...
I thought that we defended well throughout the whole game. I am disappointed about the two goals, but I am sure that we will look at them and try to work on them.
Last week we played a five, and obviously this week we played a four, but I think that we have been solid all season. When Glenn [Morris] was playing, we haven't been conceding many goals. We are a solid outfit from back to front, with the strikers and the midfielders. Hopefully, we can keep a few more clean sheets and win a few more games.
The back four and even the midfielders are throwing themselves in front of the ball to try and block it. If they don't, then I am trying to save it! It's a great defensive team, and this season we have started scoring more goals, which always helps.
Relationship with the goalkeepers...
I'm enjoying my life here. It's 100 times better when you are playing. I am happy to be challenging Glenn [Morris] when he is back fit, and we work so well together. I am looking forward to him getting back.
With Dez [Deren Ibrahim] and Taite [Holtam]. We all work so well in training, and I think that all three of us could play to be fair. Whenever we are called upon, we will be ready to play. Taite played the other night in the cup, and I thought that he did really well.
Glenn, last season, was Player of the Season again. He is different class. This season, he has been class again. It's a shame that he got injured, but I am ready to try and stay in the team now and to see what happens.
Building on the last two results...
It has been a frustrating last month, but we have won and drawn the last two now, so we can hopefully start another run, and we can see what we can do.
Having Gareth Ainsworth back on matchdays...
He is a massive presence, so it's lovely to have him back, but to be fair to Dobbo [Richard Dobson], Pete [Gill] and the other staff, they were excellent when he was away. They didn't change anything and did everything right. Obviously, the results may not have gone our way, and I thought that we were unlucky with a few of them, but to have him back is very good.
