Ainsworth | "Momentum is huge"

Gareth

Gareth Ainsworth is wary of the threat that Tranmere Rovers will bring ahead of Gillingham's trip to Prenton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Tranmere beat Shrewsbury Town 4-0 in their last league fixture, and Ainsworth has been impressed with the work that Andy Crosby has done since he took charge of Tranmere on a full-time basis.

The Gills boss discussed the importance of momentum, but alluded to how important it is to get back up once there is a blip in the road.

Ainsworth also mentioned the competitiveness of every fixture in League Two, and the selection headaches he is facing for the weekend and beyond.

What to expect on Saturday...

They've been good to start the season. They had some good results. Away at Colchester and at home against Shrewsbury. A good win for them last week. They look very threatening going forwards, and we have got to respect that. They scored four goals, so you have to look at that and see why that was the case.

It's going to be a tough game; this is away from home. It's always the case to bring something back, and hopefully, we can get all three points. That's what we are going for, but we have got to be wary. Tranmere under Andy Crosby are a different animal from what they were, and we have got to respect them.

[On Andy Crosby] - He has this identity now. I have watched them a couple of times and how they play. He was at Port Vale and has been an assistant to Nigel Adkins for quite a while, so he has done the stripes. He knows what to do as a manager. I am very wary that they are going to be a very good, solid team that we are going to have to break down.

We will also have to watch what their strengths are, because they scored four goals at the weekend, and he is going to be very happy with the attacking prowess of his team.

The importance of momentum...

Momentum is huge. It really is in football. It's also getting back on the horse when you have a little fall, which is important. That's what good managers do, and I will make sure that my boys are ready to bounce back up as soon as anything happens.

The competitiveness of League Two...

We have got to make sure that we are competitive in these games. That's the big thing in League Two. They are tight games. You don't blow teams away for the sake of it. Everyone is trying to stop everyone else from playing. We have got to go up there and be really confident that we can do that.

Team selection for Saturday...

The two who have trained in Sam Vokes and Aaron Rowe, I will have to bring them into consideration now. I cannot wait until Seb Palmer-Houlden returns, and that is going to be very soon. Then we have got Euan Williams with the long term, and we will have to look at Conor [Masterson].

I'm tossing and turning at night, thinking about the team sometimes, thinking about who is going to do well and who has the attributes to do what I want to do. I am sure that whoever I pick will get out there and give everything.
