Coleman | "We want to close the gap"

Coleman

Ethan Coleman says the squad is looking forward to the challenge that Crewe will present to Gillingham on Saturday and knows a victory could help reduce the gap to the top seven places.

The midfielder discussed how their opponents play a possession-based brand of football, but that is something they have faced throughout the season.

In the last couple of games, Omar Beckles and Travis Akomeah have partnered together at the heart of the defence. Coleman is impressed with the pair, knowing that the relationships on the pitch will only grow with more game time.

Following last Saturday's win against Tranmere, Coleman believes that the squad can build off of it heading into the final months of the season.

On Saturday's game...

They are a possession-based team, it is a big pitch and it's always tough going up there. We are looking forward to the challenge as a squad and are ready to go up there and try and get the win.

We have to take everything by the scruff of the neck now and really push and go for it. Obviously, take it game by game, but really go for it. We want to close that gap to the play-offs and then see what we can do from there.

They like to play out, but we have come across that all season. Notts [County] are similar, and there are other teams that we have played that are similar. We will go there and put our thing on the game.

Playing in front of a new centre-back partnership...

I think that it's important that you get a few games with the players around you to really understand what they are like and what they want from you as a midfielder in front of them. I think that it's important to build relationships, and you can only do that by playing games together.

You have Omar [Beckles] and Trav [Akomeah] there. Omar is an experienced player that I have played with before at Orient. He is a good, solid centre-back and communicates so well. He is a good leader. Then you have young Trav, who has huge potential and is a really good player.

I enjoy playing with them two.

Building off the win against Tranmere heading into the final third of the season...

We got two good wins before that, but then, we had another two losses, then another win. I think that the momentum is now on our side, and if we do have a loss or draw, then we can come back from that, and we have shown that in the last five games.

I think that across the season, we had a good start again, midway through we had that disappointing run, but I think that we are back on track now and have hit a bit of form. I am looking forward to the game at the weekend, and we hope to get the win.
