The MEMS Priestfield Stadium hosted the inaugural Gills Foundation Community Cup on Saturday May 17th with 32 teams taking part across four age groups, cheered on by a crowd of over 1000 spectators throughout the day.
The tournament ambition is to offer grassroots teams from Kent the opportunity to play at a professional Club stadium and create lasting memories with their family and teammates. The day didn’t disappoint with the players, coaches and spectators contributing to a great day of competitive football, played the right way.
Toby Waters (GFC Foundation’s Community Manager) commented: “It was great to see so many players from different grassroots teams across Kent come together for the tournament. The feedback has been fantastic, and we're so pleased to be able to offer this experience to so many players, coaches and spectators. There was some great football played over the weekend, and so many smiles!
“There’s a lot of work that goes on in the background to ensure the tournament runs smoothly and we’d like to thank Medway United who supplied volunteers throughout the day, the GFC Club staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and not forgetting the referees who ensured the games ran smoothly!
“Each team were a credit to their Club, and we’d like to congratulate the age group Cup and Plate winners.”
