Gareth Ainsworth feels that Saturday's trip to Cambridge is a good chance for players to impress, with the current injury situation giving others the opportunity to play.
Gills visit the U's, who will be looking to strengthen their promotion aspirations. Ainsworth is expecting a difficult game against a Neil Harris side who, he knows, will make life difficult.
Ainsworth provided an update on Sam Gale ahead of Saturday's visit to the Abbey Stadium, and is hoping that he could see a couple of players on the club's long injury list make a return to the matchday squad at the weekend.
On Saturday's trip to Cambridge...
We probably haven't got the household names that people are used to, but there is a chance now for people to shine. We are the underdogs. There is no pressure on you, go out there and give your all away from home at a promotion contender.
Fair play to Cambridge, it is a soft spot for me, as I scored my first ever league goal at Cambridge United back in I think it was 1991, so it has a place in my heart. I want to go there and turn them over because it is a game that we want to win, and believe that we can win. It will be tough, but nobody ever said that this was going to be easy.
[On Neil Harris] - He was a really good player and a really good manager. They work their socks off and are solid. I think that he has recruited really well, and I think that they are very difficult to break down.
Team news...
We are in a crazy situation at the moment, where we have so many injuries, and we probably added one more from Tuesday night, which is insane. They are all starters, really. I don't think people understand, as usually I am quite coy about giving injury news out, but for the sake of the boys, we have a lot of injuries. There are some that may be back for Saturday, but we aren't going to be anything like full strength.
Sam Gale last week, after the game, fell ill, and that caught us by surprise as well. It was quite a nasty thing that he got, and he is okay now, but he still might miss Saturday. We have got all sorts going on, and that is a really tough thing as a manager to go through, and now I have to pick the boys and get them going again.
We hope that some will come back, but we will see where we are.
A message ahead of the game...
I need these boys supported and encouraged. Whatever team it is that goes out there, there are some young boys out there, and I want them encouraged. Hopefully, the fans will encourage on Saturday and get right behind us, because we need it.
Let’s go to the Abbey on Saturday and put it right. This is great, this game. Whether that means a win, a good performance, or even a point. We want to go there and bring something home. I will be going for the win as I always do.
