Gills capture loan signing of keeper Ollie Wright

Gareth Ainsworth has added a goalkeeper to his squad with the capture of Ollie Wright on a season-long loan from Southampton.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Accrington Stanley having also had spells with Worthing and Bath City.

He is a product of the Saints academy having first arrived at St. Mary’s in 2012, and made his pro debut for the club’s U21 team in the EFL Trophy in August 2022. He also played against Newport in the same competition later in the year.

In 2024/25 Wright had two loan spells away from Southampton, making 29 appearances for Yeovil in the National League before 10 appearances to finish the season at Solihull Moors.

He signed for Accrington last summer on a season-long loan, making 47 appearances in all competitions and keeping 12 clean sheets. He was named the club's "Players' Player of the Season" and the "Managers' Player of the Season" in Accrington's end of season awards.

On arriving at MEMS Priestfield Stadium, Ollie said: “I am fortunate to have played a lot of games last season to gain my experience and hopefully I can bring that to Gillingham. I'd like to say I am quite commanding, coming for crosses and taking the pressure off the back line.

"I can't wait to get working with Deren. I am ready to go."

An interview with the player will be available online shortly.
