Ronan Hale was delighted to open his Gillingham account with a brace in the club's 2-1 win against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday at MEMS Priestfield Stadium.
The forward scored his first goal for the Football Club with a fine first-time finish in the first-half before heading in Max Clark's corner during the second. Hale touched upon how it was pure instinct, and was glad to contribute to the victory after what was a tough week.
The Northern Ireland international was happy with how the team dug in when Tranmere applied late pressure, and is hopeful that the win can act as a platform ahead of a big run in.
On the win...
I thought that it was a great win today. At times we were under the cosh as we were leading, but I thought that we dug in well. It was a massive three points, and the two goals, I am very happy with. I am hoping to bring it into the big run in coming up now.
On his two goals...
The first one was just pure instinct. I saw that Litts [Armani Little] had flicked it on, and I timed my run and just finished it.
The second one just hit off the back of my head. I pushed away from the goalkeeper and just flicked it, so I will take any goals as they come. Long may it continue.
I thought that the place was rocking today when I got the two goals, so I am happy to be contributing to the team and getting the points on board.
I have had a tough week with my grandfather passing away a couple of days ago, so I know that he would have been watching down and getting them two goals would have been massive.
It was massive because he would have been raging if I didn't. He would have been straight onto me if I didn't bury them chances, so those two goals were for him.
Importance of getting off the mark...
Massively, because on Tuesday night [vs Notts County] I should have scored right at the death. It played on my mind for a day or two, and then I got it out of the way. To get the first goal is brilliant, and hopefully, there are many more to come.
