Hale | "We didn't take our chances"

Hale

Ronan Hale was frustrated that Gillingham came out on the wrong side of their game against Cheltenham Town having controlled the first-half in particular.

The Gills went a goal in front thanks to Hale's smart finish, but they failed to extend their advantage in an opening period that they had plenty of great opportunities in. The forward acknowledged that it was one of the best halves of football he has seen since joining the Football Club, but knows that chances need to be converted.

The Northern Ireland international discussed playing up front with the experienced Sam Vokes and looked forward to the final three games of the season and beyond.

Post-match thoughts...

The lads are obviously all very disappointed. The first-half was probably the best first half since I have been here. We clicked as a team, and on another day we're out of sight, and it's three or four nil at half-time, and we are back up the road. It is one of them that has come back to bite us. We have not taken our chances and came out on the wrong end of the game.

As a striker, it is a thing that I want to be doing, scoring, but it means nothing tonight when we have come out on the wrong end of the result. Obviously, we will be hurting, but we will get over it very quickly, and hopefully, move on to Saturday.

On his goal...

As soon as I got it out of my feet I knew what I wanted to do. It was just touch, shift and hit. Thankfully, it went in at the near post. I would love more chances like that, but obviously, they don't come like that. Listen, it is great to score, but it is disappointing to come out on the wrong end of the result.

Partnering Sam Vokes in attack...

We played against Tranmere, and I got two goals as well. Tonight I scored again, so it is a good partnership up there. Big man, small man. I know where to run off him, and obviously, it came from the goal tonight. It is good experience playing up against big players like him, and it is one that is best for the team, and hopefully, it will work.

Looking forward...

There are three games to go, and we are looking at three wins, hopefully. They will be tough games, but the lads are more than up for the fight. Obviously, tonight wasn't to be, and we have plenty of time to put it right, which will put us in good stead for the season coming up.
