The Football Club can confirm that Joe Dunne has now left his role as Youth Team Coach.
We communicated that Joe would be departing on January 6, but today is his final official working day at Priestfield.
He departs after 15 months of service in the role.
Dunne represented Gills as a player on 135 occasions between 1990 and 1996, scoring once.
Speaking last month, Joe told us: "It's very tough [deciding to leave], having been here for over a year at a place I have complete admiration for and I have seen how hard people work here. I have seen how honest people are here; I have seen ownership at a very high level who want so much for the club - I see that from the inside.
"The players I have become very attached to; I am an emotional coach and I have made some fantastic connections with the group. They are great lads; I have tried to bring understanding of what the club means, what the divisions means and the work ethic and principles that are needed.
"A new coach has a great opportunity now to test themselves and work with a great team of people at youth and first-team level."
Bryan Bull, Academy Manager, said: "We are all disappointed to see Joe leave us after an exceptional 15 months at the club. From a personal view point I have loved working alongside Joe, but the opportunity offered to him ticked some boxes for him that we could not.
"Joe has brought a massive amount, not only to the Academy collectively, but more specifically to the group of players he has worked directly with, and we thank him all that he has done. His knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm will be a hard act to follow. We are, however, delighted with the replacement we have managed to bring in, an announcement of which will be made in the near future."
Everyone at MEMS Priestfield Stadium would like to thank Joe for his efforts and we wish all the best for the future.
