Robbie McKenzie says the vibes within the camp are positive as Gillingham welcome Cambridge United to the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Boxing Day.
McKenzie said although a couple of recent second-half performances have been below par, he knows the squad have it in them to defeat anybody. He went on to highlight Cambridge’s strengths, knowing they will pose a difficult task. He also touched upon the return of Neil Harris.
The 27-year-old has spent time at the heart of the defence and in midfield this season, and discussed how he has handled playing in the both roles.
On Cambridge…
They are going to be strong, physical and organised, and they are on a good run. Hopefully, we can end that and start our own run ourselves and push into the New Year.
I have got a lot of respect for Neil [Harris]. He did a lot for me and helped me a lot coming through. I think that it will be good and it will be nice to see him.
Vibe in the camp…
They are generally positive. I feel that the two first-half performances in the past two games have been good. We have played well, and it is the second-half which has let us down both times. We are positive, and we feel like we can build something.
We are just having a little blip at the minute and I feel that we are good enough to get ourselves out of it.
On switching from centre-half into midfield...
Sometimes you still have your defensive head on a little bit. I feel that I can transition well into midfield.
At times, I think I was the most experienced one in the backline, and hopefully, I could have helped them. Obviously, trying to learn from the things that I do and help them progress as players.
