Gillingham goalkeeper Glenn Morris is hoping that Saturday’s dramatic 3-2 win against Newport County can help the Gills to kick on in the second half of the season.
The goalkeeper made his return to first-team action, having missed an extended period due to injury. Morris was pleased to contribute to the victory with several fantastic saves.
Morris also discussed the emotions of the team following the victory, but also reiterated the need to take each game as it comes and not to look too far ahead.
Making key saves in contributing to the win…
It’s what you’re there to do, but the timing of it, near the end of the game, it’s nice to be able to contribute and get us over the line. You could see what it meant to everyone. The players, the fans, and the Gaffer. It’s just what we needed. Hopefully, we can push on a little bit now.
The emotions of the squad post-match…
I think it’s relief. In the first-half, I thought that we played well and we controlled the game. In the second-half, we had some good chances, and we probably feel hard done by, so I think that it’s probably a relief to have got the win and to get over the line.
Building on the win…
I think that’s what we need to do now. We have to put some performances and runs together. We know what going there [Harrogate] is like, but no game is easy in this league. Off the back of that, we would like to think that we can go and put in a performance.
Getting a win today helps, and it was what we needed. Now we can hopefully kick on and start another mini-season, really. If we can start like we did at the start of the season here, then who knows?
We won’t look too far ahead. We just want to concentrate on Harrogate.
